What is the Physical significance of self-inductance ?
Self-inductance in electrical circuit is equivalent to mass or inertia in mechanical system. As inertia opposes any change of mechanical motion, similarly the presence of self- inductance offers resistance to any change of current or voltage. That’s why self-inductance is sometimes known as the ‘inertia of electricity’.
